Wedding Testimonials

Kevin and Margaret

We had our wedding in Ffrench's restaurant in March 2005 and we would thoroughly recommend it as a venue for a wedding. We didn't want to have our wedding reception in a hotel and were looking for an alternative option. We felt hotels generally offer poor value for money, are inflexible regarding what you can do on the day and have preconceived notions of what a wedding should be like. We also wanted the food to be really good which just hasn't been our experience at wedding receptions in hotels. Our motto was 'if you want good food - go to a restaurant; if you want somewhere to stay - go to a hotel!'

When we visited the restaurant for the first time we really loved it. We ate there several times and were absolutely delighted by the standard of the cooking. Mickey is a fantastic chef and his love of food really comes out in his dishes. On foot of this, we decided to book the whole restaurant for two full nights and to organise our wedding accordingly. We decided to have an intimate 65 people for full dinner on the day of our wedding and 150 guests for a party the following night.

Ffrench's were quite happy for us to design our own menu. We really wanted our wedding menu to be something special and were able to offer our guests a choice of three different starters, three different main courses and three different desserts. This was followed by coffee and the most amazing cheese spread. The food was absolutely divine and was a real talking point for our guests. The whole building was decorated wonderfully and the effect was a warm, intimate setting where our guests really relaxed and kicked up their heels. There was also plenty of room for people to talk and chat.

For the second evening we had 150 guests for a wedding party. We had the whole building to ourselves again which made for a really personal event. Mickey came up with more fabulous food for our 150 guests and the service was excellent. The full restaurant easily accommodated the numbers. We had a full band to rock the house for several hours followed by a DJ which allowed us to dance into the small hours. Having the dancing in one room meant that people who wanted to dance had a specific area to do so and when they didn't want to dance they could take a seat in one of the other rooms and chat with people without the music being too loud. It was perfect.

The staff on both nights were incredibly professional, warm and attentive. They even went out of their way to organise taxis for our guests when they wanted to leave! Clare was absolutely brilliant and no request was too big or small and was handled very professionally.

If you want flexibility and choice in how you celebrate your wedding, we couldn't recommend Ffrench's restaurant highly enough. From the location, the old charm of the building, the imagination and excellence of the staff, the exquisite food and the flexibility to do things YOUR way, we really do not think there is a better setting for a wedding in Ireland.
